Meet Dale

Hi, my name is Dale Murrish and I am running for Troy City Council. I have lived in Troy since 1988 and have seen it grow and change, mostly good but some bad. I’d like to be on the council to provide my perspective during discussion of council business. I am a retired GM engineer so I would be able to devote the time for the job, which is way more than the council meetings themselves, as current council members well know.

My goal is to bring a unique, independent perspective to the council, representing all stakeholders in Troy: residents, police, firefighters and city employees regardless of political views or citizenship, including business owners and those who work in Troy but live elsewhere.

Education and Activities:

  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana
    • Thesis: Finite Element Analysis of the Tibia with and without a (Knee) Prosthesis
  • Professional Engineer Registration
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana
  • High school salutatorian, Highland, Indiana
  • Eagle Scout: I still try to live by the Scout Law, and be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.
  • Church choirs in several churches over the years, currently New City Presbyterian Church choir
  • Bicycling on freshly paved Beach Road in Troy, Kensington Road
  • Volleyball and working out at the Troy Community Center

Formative events:

  • Childhood vacations camping all over the USA and Canada
  • Summer 1977: Indiana University Honors Program in Foreign Languages Krefeld, West Germany, 7 weeks “kein Englisch” high school language immersion.
  • Summer 1981 and 1984 bike trips to Europe, including a day in East Berlin. Longer visits to Yugoslavia and Hungary in 1984 gave me a taste of communism and what it does to a country. It’s disturbing to see American young people so enamored with socialism. Good government can perhaps reverse this trend.

Work Experience:

  • General Motors Development Engineer; employed there 1984-2022
    • Designed and analyzed crankshafts and piston pins for numerous production and prototype engines, from the Saturn 1..9L to Northstar 4.6L V8 to the new flat plane V8 for the Corvette!
    • Design Responsible Engineer for Big Block 8.1L cylinder block, DRE for Truck L6 /L5/L4 balance shafts and crankshaft. The DRE job gave me management experience as “CEO of my parts.”
    • Taught Base Engine Design Class (analysis of pistons portion) for several years
    • 18 patents and patent applications, 6 defensive publications, 2 trade secrets

  • Caterpillar Tractor Co., cooperative engineer 1979-1982, 5 different work assignments
